New Delhi: Sangeeta Tomar is mapping out her campaign strategy for the next 20 days. An ex-Army major, working on a shoestring budget, with a tiny army of volunteers, she is hoping to win her very first election from the coveted New Delhi seat.
“I am proud about the fact that I am not with criminals. I have professionals like doctors, students. I have the youth on my side who have the power of intellect, knowledge and zeal. This power will sustain. It is not about money and muscle power,” Sangeeta said.
Sangeeta was picked from over 220 people by the Youth For Equality party. She knows stepping into politics won't be easy, but insists that her integrity will set her apart.
“I have not bought any ticket. I am here because of people. In fact I feel like I've cleared another service selection board exam,” Sangeeta said.
Out on her first day of campaigning in a neighbourhood market on Thursday, she did manage to gather some support.
“The only problem I face is of people's mentality. That's the biggest obstacle. They feel there are so many big parties so what can I do. I want to break that barrier,” Sangeeta said.
With modest beginnings and big dreams, Sangeeta has sounded the bugle. The citizen is finally ready to turn candidate.
