New Delhi: Love them or hate them but you just can’t ignore them.
The first family of Karnataka’s politics is led by the 75-year-old patriarch, H D Deve Gowda.
It is group that has led the states politics for almost two decades now.
And as Karnataka gets ready to face up to its latest political crisis Gowda and sons are in the thick of things again.
Gowda and his wife Channamma have four sons and two daughters. The eldest son HD Balkrishna Devegowda is a retired IAS officer.
Along with his youngest brother Dr HD Ramesh they have major stakes in the states mining industry.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is the third son and along with his second sibling HD Revanna he manages his father's political interests in the state.
From business to politics, it is all in the family. And for that matter, Deve Gowda and his sons have their hands everywhere He has two daughters as well but they are yet to be accommodated in the family's growing hold over the state.
His son Kumaraswamy's elevation to the CM's post was as dramatic as his dethroning.
When he was coronated Gowda disowned him for joining communal forces. Today Gowda is trying to rescue his son like a doting father.
"My father never wanted me to continue as chief minister of the state,” says Kumaraswamy.
A firm believer in stars Dewe Gowda's personal astrologer is believed to have told him that if elections take place in the state he will win.
So over the next one month Deve Gowda and all his sons will be praying at temples across the state to realise their father's wish where the Karnataka government becomes synonymous with Gowdas. But till then it is a Gowda show all the way.
