New Delhi: It has been more than 10 days since a blast took place in Mehrauli. The blast killed three and left many injured. But till now Delhi Police have neither come up with any concrete leads nor have arrested anyone.
Police say the Mehrauli blast of September 17 is unlikely to be connected with the Indian Mujahideen (IM) because the make of the bomb did not have any of the signature elements. They said the blast was very similar to ones that had taken place at the IIT flyover, Mathura Road and Lado Sarai in the past.
Police sources also say that there are no confirmed detentions, no clear link established with previous blasts and no special team appointed to handle the investigations.
The Delhi Police were looking at several possibilities. They were looking at a possible Bangladeshi link, the involvement of a splinter group of Abdul Karim Tunda, the alleged mastermind behind blasts in Delhi and UP between 1996-1998 and the involvement of some other local module. But police have not thrown any light on either of these theories till now.
“This is not something I want to talk about at the moment,” says DCP South HGS Dhaliwal.
Surprisingly the Special Cell hasn’t stepped in. The cell had handled investigations in the recent serial blasts in Delhi. But this time the Special Cell officials say they are busy fighting the Indian Mujahideen.
