Mumbai: The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) Maharashtra electricity regulator has given Tata power time till Monday for a plan on meeting the power shortfall in Mumbai.
Top MERC officials met on Thursday to find a solution to power woes in the city.
MERC has now told Tata power, which is the nodal agency for distributing power in Mumbai, that it cannot go on drawing power from the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.
Tata power will on Monday have to come out with its plans to meet the current shortfall of 100 to 150 megawatts.
The Appellate Tribunal has reportedly allowed Reliance Energy to pass on its extra expenditure of Rs 577 crore to consumers in the suburbs.
Rates for the consumers in the island city - from Colaba to Mahim and Sion - were raised after MERC approved tariff hikes for BEST that supplies power to the island city.
The city currently has a shortfall of around 100 MW, and the entire state has a shortfall of 5,500 MW.
