New Delhi: On Monday, the Madras High Court upheld the Tamil Nadu government's order directing unaided colleges to admit students under management quota through counselling.
In effect this means that among those applying for management seats, students who perform well in their exams stand a better chance of getting admission.
This in turn implies that management seats in the state will be filled on the basis of merit.
The High Court's decision is an attempt to check sale of seats to highest bidders.
Delivering the verdict on a petition filed by the Consortium of Unaided Self-financing Professional Colleges, Justice V Dhanapalan also upheld the May 25 government order.
The order states that that 65 per cent of sanctioned seats should be surrendered by non-minority institutions and 50 per cent of seats by minority institutions.
