MFN status granted, implementation needed: Pak

CNN-IBN

Maldives: Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir on Tuesday said there was no confusion over granting the most favoured nation (MFN) status to India and informed that Commerce Secretaries of the two countries will meet this month.

"In principle MFN has been issued, but bureaucracy needs to work to implement it. We are moving in right directions," said Bashir.

"We need to have mutually beneficial trade relations," he said.

Earlier, Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar also said that there was no U-turn regarding granting the MFN status to India and that Pakistan army is a "stakeholder" in the dialogue process with India and fully supports the initiative to improve bilateral ties.

Khar made the remarks when she was asked by reporters in Lahore on Saturday whether the army had been taken on board for the dialogue process with India and initiatives like the move to grant the MFN status to India.
