Chandigarh: The Home Ministry has asked for a report from the Himachal Police on the detention of eight Chinese nationals in Himachal Pradesh. The Himachal Police have been asked to submit a report by Wednesday evening. CNN-IBN has accessed a list of 140 Chinese nationals whose names were sent to the Foreigners Division in the Home Ministry for verification.
Eight Chinese nationals were taken into custody in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning. The Chinese nationals were detained by the Himachal Police from the Jongsar monastery.
The police said that they were under surveillance for several days after their movements were found suspicious. Apart from Chinese currency, Rs 30 lakh have also been recovered from them.
The police say the Chinese nationals were on a tourist visa, but were working as carpenters.
Although a case has been registered, the police have not confirmed if the detained Chinese nationals were working as spies.
