Miffed Lalu blames Congress for Babri demolition

Patna: Once Sonia Gandhi’s most trusted ally, The RJD chief Lalu Prasad appears to be a very worried man.

With ground reports suggesting that Lalu's political ground is slipping, he is sounding desperate.

On Saturday, he blamed Congress for the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.

Lalu's reaction could be to UPA chief Sonia Gandhi's sharp criticism of his stint as Bihar chief minister.

She had said that Bihar had seen dark days under Lalu, but this outburst is clearly an attempt to hold on to at least the minority vote and cut out the Congress from competing.

Meanwhile, the Congress's reaction to Lalu has been subdued.

Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said, “And for him (Lalu) to criticise the Congress party while being hand and glove with Kalyan Singh is something that surprises us.”

The Congress playing down Lalu's barb, perhaps is aware that it's out of the anger of seeing arch rival Nitish Kumar break into his vote bank.

Lalu is hoping to revive the magic of the time when he ordered Advani's arrest during the BJP leader's rath yatra when he was the hero of Bihar's Muslims but the problem for him is that it is almost 20 years later and he's facing a new challenge and a new challenger.
