MiG-29 crashes in Ambala, pilot safe

Ambala: A MiG-29 fighter aircraft crashed near Ambala Air Base on Thursday while coming into land but the pilot ejected safely.

Flt Lft V Naik bailed out as the plane crashed into the paddy fields at about 1600 hrs, IST in Saddopur village, on the Delhi-Ambala-Chandigarh Highway about five km from the Airbase.

The pilot, who was rushed to the Air Force hospital in Ambala, is stated to be out of danger.

The MiG-29 was burst into flames and a tractor standing in the paddy fields was also gutted, District Commissioner O P Langyan said.

While the crop was also destroyed due to the crash, no human loss is reported so far, Langyan said.

The reason of the crash is not yet known and details were awaited, he said, adding that the entire area has been cordoned off.
