Srinagar: An unidentified militant has been killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Handwara area in Kupwara district, police said on Saturday.
Security forces laid an ambush in the Bawan forests near Zachaldara, around 100 km from Srinagar, last night following information about the presence of militants in the area.
They said contact was established with the militants late in the night and in the ensuing gunfight, one militant was killed.

The encounter took place in the forests of Handwara area in Kupwara district, police said on Saturday.
The operation was still in progress till reports last came in, they said.
