New Delhi: Police in Jammu and Kashmir say there will be increased militancy in the Valley this summer.
J&K police officials told CNN-IBN that already 100 heavily armed Afghan and Pakistan militants have sneaked into the Valley recently. Of this about 40 to 50 militants crossed the borders into Kashmir since March 15.
This admission by the police is in contrast to their earlier stance that militancy is coming down in Kashmir.
Militants captured by the police recently had also confessed there will be increased intrusions by foreign militants this summer.
Earlier Hizbul Mujahideen senior ideologue Junaid-ul Islam had said, “There have been signs of weakness but militancy will rejuvenate. It will depend entirely on how foreign militants act.''
“We have concrete information that from March 15 onwards, a group of 40-50 militants have crossed, prior to this 60 more had already arrived. These militants are from 4 main outfits and nearly 100 are camping in Lolab. Out of these 95 per cent are foreign militants, '' SSP Vijay Kumar said.
Police say apart from Lashkar-e-Toiba and Al Badr, this time the pan-Islamic Harkat-e-Mujahideen, which had suffered huge losses in the Kupwara belt is being revived in a big way.
"Some 300-400 militants are in launching pads ready to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir to keep the pot of militancy boiling and boost the sagging moral of the militants here," PTI quoted source as saying.
However, the intelligence and ground reports collected by various security agencies put the figure at over 400, the sources said adding, the agencies have also detected increased infiltration along LoC, particularly in Rajouri-Poonch sector of Jammu region and Gurez sector of Kashmir this year.
There are 26 militant training camps, including 21 along LoC and four along the international border, they said. General Officer Commanding Lt Gen R K Karwal had on Wednesday also confirmed reports of over 300 to 400 militants stationed along the LoC.
