Mumbai: A major racket of adulterated milk was busted in Mumbai on Friday night with Food and Drug Authority (FDA) officials conducting raids at three different locations at Shivaji Nagar, Dahisar and Borivili.
The accused were caught red-handed on camera and four people were arrested. CNN-IBN was exclusively part of the raid.
The gang was using some well-known milk brands like Amul and Mother Dairy.
Several hundred packets of milk were being split-open and replaced with water, after which the packets were resealed. The process was being repeated across the different areas simultaneously.
"I was adding water to milk. We add 100 grams of water to every litre of milk," one of the arrested accused said.
Several hundred litres of adulterated milk was seized during the raid.
"We have busted a milk adulteration racket here. We will lodge an FIR with the police," said FDA inspector Rajendra Runwal.
Those involved in the trade used a bucket and mug to fill packets with non-purified tap water. Another person used to seal the using a burning candle.
