Milk to be dearer by Re 1 in Gujarat, Delhi

Ahmedabad: State's largest milk producer, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) marketing its dairy products under brand Amul, is likely to increase the milk prices by Re 1 in Gujarat and New Delhi, senior Federation official said.

"In the backdrop of drought-like situation prevailing in the state the prices of cattle feed has gone up. In the wake of rising input costs we are considering to hike milk prices by Re 1 in Gujarat and New Delhi," Chief General Manager GCMMF RS Sodhi told PTI.

The milk prices are likely to be revised by next week, he added.

"Federation is contemplating to revise prices of full cream milk to Rs 27 per litre from the existing Rs 26 per litre," Federation sources said, adding, "Prices of toned milk are also expected to go up."

With a network of 13 district co-operative milk producing unions, GCMMF has daily average milk collection of 8.4 million litres, and touched a sales turnover of Rs 67,113 million last fiscal, federation official said.

The Amul brand of dairy products enjoy large market share even in Delhi, after Mother Dairy, the official said.
