New Delhi: It's not easy being the country's most celebrated golfer.
The Volvo Masters title in 2006, the coveted Padma Shri in 2007 and now an invitation to the Augusta Masters has further cemented Jeev Milkha Singh's superstar status not only in India but also in world golf.
"I was lying in the bed. I was down with flu after the Abu Dhabi event. I got a phone call from Buzzy Johnson of Augusta Nationals: 'What're you doing?' I said I am lying in bed. He said 'Jeev you better start jumping. The Augusta Nationals is extending a special invitation to you.' And I was jumping. I think it was a dream come true for me.”
After a terrific 2006 and a slightly disappointing 2007, Jeev is now hoping to be back with a bang this year post-marriage.
About his marriage, Jeev says he doesn't feel any different. "It's the same thing. I have known my wife Kudrat for a long time. I think I am now the most settled person, that's the way I will like to put it," he says.
Jeev feels he has been playing well and it's only a matter of time before he is contending.
Having just played at the Indian Masters, Jeev has a clear goal ahead for himself: to get back among the world's top 50. And with a little bit of Lady Luck, he might just be able to make it by the end of this year.
