New Delhi: It could have been a rags-to-riches tale for Ahmedabad-based carpenter Jugal Kishore Jangid. A computer glitch deposited Rs 593 million in his bank account. But in Jangid’s case honesty triumphed over greed.
"People told me that it is Dhanteras, a day when Lakshmi, Hindu goddess of prosperity is worshipped. I told them that I do not want this money and I just want my hard earned money to be returned to me,” Jangid said.
Jangid's income is about Rs 7,000 and he didn't want a rupee more than what was his. So he approached the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which now plans to honour him.
“He asked for help as he got scared not only of losing his money but of getting involved into a legal wrangle. So, we spoke to the bank authorities and asked them that his money should be returned to him immediately otherwise his Diwali will get spoiled,” Vice-President of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry Samir Patel said.
