Dinbudhi (Jharkhand): The much-awaited wedding of Jharkhand Home Minister Sudesh Mahto was solemnised in Dinbudhi, his wife's village, on Sunday.

The entire village joined hands to give final touches to the preparations of the mega event.

While media reports on the lavish preparations for the wedding forced the home minister to cut down on the pomp and show, the security presence was heavy because Sudesh Mahto figures high on the Naxal hit-list.

The bride's family was proud to have the Home Minster as their son-in-law.

"Everybody is happy because the groom is a good man. The whole village is happy," the bride's uncle, Dhananjay Mahto said.

As several villagers turned up at the ceremony, the Minister drove straight to the venue without the traditonal baraat.

In fact, politicians across party lines couldn't find fault with the scale of celebrations at the minister's wedding.

"It is not unwanted expenditure. Every wedding calls for some minimum expenditure," Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP from Jamshedpur, Sunil Mahto said.

But for villagers in and around Dimbudhi the occasion was by all means historic and will be remembered for a lifetime.

"The couple looked very good together. The arrangements were up to the mark," Forest Minister, Hari Narayan Rai said.

Dinbudhi, as promised, underwent complete makeover - roads, electricity, and drinking water are all in place, for the first time in 58 years.
