Hyderabad: IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah has requested Union human resources development minister Kapil Sibal to set up an information technology research and development institute here on the line of the one existing in Taiwan. Ponnala discussed the matter with Sibal when the latter attended the convocation at the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences here on Sunday.
Speaking to mediapersons later, Ponnala said that there was a need for R & D for ‘surviving’ in the competitive global software market and the city is the best place for a research institute to produce cost-effective software products. Ponnala suggested that the institution could be a joint initiative of the Union and state governments and the electronic industry. He claimed that Sibal had responded positively to his proposal.
Earlier, he had pointed out that Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan was an applied research organisation that reaches across multiple industrial technology fields.

Ponnala Lakshmaiah has requested Kapil Sibal to set up an IT research and development institute in the city.
