CHENNAI: DMDK members staged a walkout in the State Assembly strongly protesting a remark of P Chendur Pandian, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries. In his reply to the debate on the demand for grants to his department, Chendur Pandian said “a person had become the leader of the opposition due to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa”. Reciting verses from an old song in an MGR-starrer, he said “the person had been wasting time by not attending the proceedings of the House”.
The DMDK members said the minister specifically mentioned the post of the leader of opposition. After repeated pleas to expunge the remark failed, the DMDK members led by Chandrakumar walked out of the House.
