Bangalore: Inflation is one issue that the BJP is sure to rake up in the next General Elections but austerity is surely not something they are working on. In Karnataka, a few BJP ministers like state Women and Child Welfare Minister Narendra Swamy are spending lakhs to renovate their government quarters according to Vaastu.
“To an extent some modification is needed. According to light, one extra room maybe needed. It varies from person to person but I can't say,” Swamy said.
However, when asked about Vaastu, the Minister said he is just a “believer of God.”
It's the belief in good times that has prompted some ministers to move into their new homes before the inauspicious Aashada month begins on July 4.
But ministers like M Karunakara Reddy are willing to wait for five months until he can do up his house lavishly. Sources say he wants it modified like some house that he saw in a Telugu film.
But some of the BJP's own ministers admit that they are going a tad overboard.
“Last time also, during the time of SM Krishna, Dharma Singh, Kumaraswamy, ministers’ houses were renovated, and some were done according to Vaastu. This time again some ministers are doing it. It’s all a waste,” Transport Minister R Ashok said.
At a time when prices of cement and steel are soaring, the Public Works Department is spending around Rs 40-60 lakh on every house that needs major renovation.
