Bangalore: There's growing concern over the disappearance of a nuclear scientist from the Kaiga Atomic Power Plant in Karnataka. The scientist went missing while on a morning walk and the police say they are not ruling out kidnapping as the cause.
48-year-old Lokanath Mahalingam stepped out for a morning jog on Monday near the Kaiga Atomic Power Plant, where he has worked for the past nine years. He has not returned home even though his family has been waiting for the five days last. Initial reports suggested that his family suspected he was kidnapped and therefore lodged a complaint with the local police. But the cops are puzzled as there's been no ransom demand.
Mahalingam hails from Tamil Nadu has also worked at the Kalpakkam nuclear plant.
Mahalingam was working as a lecturer in the simulated training department at Kaiga and sources say he wasn't privy to classified information. He was not even carrying a wallet when he disappeared as he had gone jogging at the time.
CNN-IBN was able to contact his brother-in-law who has reached Kaiga
He felt convinced that the authorities are doing the best they can. He told CNN-IBN about the scientist’s wife who had gone to pray at the temple, as other efforts have still not held fruit. The family knows of no enemies of the missing scientist.
Police are combing the jungles of Western Ghats surrounding his quarters. The search for the missing scientist continues.
