Mkts open with modest gains; RIL, Tata Steel up

New Delhi: The markets opened in green with modest gains today in line with its Asian peers. Metals, refineries and banks were in focus in the opening move.

At 9:56 hours IST, Sernsex was up 68 points at 15573 and Nifty was up 19 points at 4516. Major gainers in the opening trade were Rel Comm, Reliance, Cipla, HDFC, ICICI Bank, ITC, Tata Steel, TCS, NTPC, ONGC and Unitech.

Asian markets were trading firm. Japan's Nikkei gained 0.39% or 61.49 points at 15,859.09, Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 0.86% or 209.48 points at 24,519.62, Singapore's Straits Times was up 0.18% or 6.42 points at 3,512.51, South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,814.96. However, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.62% or 56.24 points at 8,961.88.

US markets: The Dow Jones industrial average fell 16.74 points, or 0.13%, to 13,291.65, after weaving in and out of positive territory throughout the session. A day earlier, the blue-chip index soared 180 points. Broader stock indexes were narrowly mixed. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.07 point, or less than 0.01%, to 1,471.56, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 5.40 points, or 0.21%, to 2,592.07.

  • FIIs net buy USD 109.2 mn in equity on September 11
  • MFs net sell Rs 179 crore (Rs 1.79 billion) in equity on September 11
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 1,067 crore (Rs 10.67 billion) at Rs 81927 crore (Rs 819.27 billion)
