MLA harasses woman, gets community service

New Delhi: Congress MLA Talvinder Singh Marwah is helping out at an AIDS awareness camp.

From the Delhi Assembly to community service, the politician is clocking in hours of community service not out of the goodness of his heart, but on court orders.

He had to choose between sweeping the streets of the Capital or helping out at the camp — punishment for harassing a woman.

Talvinder chose the latter saying, "Gande kaam mei kyon padoo?" ("Why should I get into dirty work and sweep?")

The MLA and an accomplice were booked in 1992 for forcibly entering a woman's house and harassing her.

Says the woman, "He barged into my house and broke my car."

Since 2008 is an election year, the netaji (politician) thought it best to appease irate voters.

And though Talvinder still doesn't know the difference between an HIV patient and an AIDS victim, one hopes he has at least learnt a lesson in humility.
