NAYAGARH: Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh, on his way back to Bhubaneswar from Kandhamal district, on Sunday inaugurated the Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra at Panchrida Manapur near Odgaon in Ranpur Assembly Constituency of the district.
Ranpur MLA Satyanarayan Pradhan, in a petition to the Minister, demanded inclusion of Nayagarh district in the Integrated Action Plan (IAP) to fight the Red rebels, referring to the attack in 2008.
The Maoists had killed 15 persons, including 14 policemen, besides injuring 16 others and looting the district armoury. A group of over 100 ultras, including women cadres, had reportedly entered the district town in trucks and Bolero vehicles, with bombs and firearms.
The Minister’s attention was also drawn to the drought in the district.
Collector Arovind Agrawal, Project Director, DRDA, Devendra Prasad Das and Kandhamal MP Rudramadhab Roy were present.
The Minister made a brief stopover at Nayagarh PWD Inspection Bungalow where he was greeted by Congress activists before leaving for Bhubaneswar.
