M&M plans to set up Rs 4,000 crore plant in city

CHENNAI: A delegation comprising executives of auto major Mahindra and Mahindra, on Friday, called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and sought the State government’s support for setting up its second automotive plant in Chennai with an investment of Rs 4,000 crore.
Mahindra and Mahindra vice-president and managing director, Anand Mahindra along with his company officials, held discussions with the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised the CM of the company’s proposal for setting up its second manufacturing facility in Chennai and requested the Chief Minister to extend all necessary help in this regard.
Later, Anand Mahindra told the media that he had the first round of talks with the Chief Minister on the setting up of the second plant, which would be the single largest investment to be made by the company in the automotive sector.
“We are on an exploratory visit. We had first round of talks with the Chief Minister. We will come back again,” he said, adding that the company was looking at investments in other States also.
State Industries Minister P Thangamani, Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi, Industries Secretary N Sundaradevan, senior government officials, Mahindra and Mahindra Auto and Farm Equipment Sector president Dr Pawan Goenka, Mahindra World City Developers Limited official Sangeetha Prasad were present.
