CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh to the next of kin of the student, Pawan Mahato, who was killed in the Railway exam board attack in Mumbai on Sunday.

Pawan Kumar from Nalanda district had gone to Mumbai to appear for the competitive examinations organised by the Railways.

He was allegedly assaulted by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers and succumbed to his injuries.

An angry Nitish Kumar reportedly spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh regarding the matter.

Nitish asked Deshmukh to ensure the safety of Biharis in Maharashtra. He also urged the Centre to immediately intervene into the situation and initiate action against the attackers.

Meanwhile, youths who returned to Bihar, after being allegedly assaulted by MNS activists, vandalised the Patna railway station to protest the alleged killing of a candidate by Thackeray's supporters in Mumbai.

Although, the Mumbai Police said Mahato was killed in stampede following the MNS attack on an exam centre, the youths claimed he was beaten up by MNS activists and succumbed to his injuries.

Some students also filed a complaint against Thackeray at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station in Patna.
