New Delhi: After defending the attack on Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi inside the Maharashtra Assembly, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday did a turnaround.

Speaking to CNN-IBN’s sister channel IBN Lokmat, MNS leader Atul Sarpotdar said the party will apologise to the House.

“Our leader Raj Thackeray had specifically instructed us not to disrupt the House or destroy any property, but one of the MLAs went out of control. We will apologise to the House when the time comes, but under no circumstance will we apologise to Abu Azmi,” MNS leader Atul Sarpotdar said.

Four MNS MLAs were suspended after they attacked Azmi on Monday, insisting he take his oath in Marathi instead of Hindi.

Soon after the incident a privilege motion was passed by Minister Harshvardhan Patil, asking the four MLAs to be suspended.

All four are first timers and have been suspended for four years. They have also been barred from entering Mumbai and Nagpur whenever the Assembly meets in the two cities.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray had issued a diktat a few days ago that all MLAs must take oath in Marathi, but Azmi had insisted that he would take his oath in Hindi and dared the MNS to act against him.
