MNS workers attack Congress MP in Mumbai

Mumbai: With the Maharashtra Assembly elections just six days away the battle for state has turned violent.

Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam was attacked by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers after the Raj Thackeray-led party alleged that Nirupam was distributing money to migrant voters.

Raj Thackeray seems to be now taking every opportunity to rake up the Marathi manoos issue.

"We found that Nirupam was distributing money in Bharat Parekh's campaign to voters who are migrants from North India. We resisted this but Nirupam's guard threatened our activists with a gun, so we had to retaliate," said MNS leader Jitendra Nagvekar.

A complaint was registered against Nirupam by MNS activists and he was arrested and released on bail by police.

Nirupam claimed he was innocent and was being targeted by the MNS for political gain

"Some one called the police station and said that Congress candidate Bharat Parekh and Sanjay Nirupam have come to the area and are indulging in unlawful activities. But we could not find any thing objectionable," Mumbai Police inspector Sanjay Jayswal said.

Posed with the challenge of fighting against established parties in the Assembly elections Raj Thackeray's MNS has to now resort to tactics to grab attention of the voters.

Almost every day the party comes out with some new issue.
