Patna: Residents of Bihar's Kharenda village have found a quicker way to sort out their disputes – this is Bihar’s model court.
It's an unusual sight in Bihar, a Panchayat in session, settling disputes. At Kharenda in Bhabhua district, over 250 disputes and police cases have already been settled by villagers within a year.
People here are no more waiting for the tiresome journey to the court - rather solving their issues through the model Panchayat.
Village Mukhiya says, “This saves money and time. Earlier we used to spend a lot and to wait for long for verdicts.”
Kharenda is now a dispute-free model Panchayat. Having a population of over 10,000 and covering five villages, there is no pending police case in the Panchayat now.
Village Sarpanch Ashok Kumar Pandey says, “We have sorted out more than 250 cases and we believe that we can solve more issues likewise.”
And such settlement of disputes has taken the load off the administration.
Kharenda stands out in a state often known more for poor governance.
Not just because the Panchayat is making a big differences in people's lives, but because the people themselves are making the difference here.
