Click to play videoNew Delhi: Days after the riches-to-rags story of former model Gitanjali Nagpal was first reported, a German national has come forward claiming to be her estranged husband.
A report in a national daily claims Robert Stumpfl saw Gitanjali's pictures on a blog post on the Internet. He then reportedly wrote back to the blogger saying he had certificates proving that he was married to her and wanted her back.
He said Gitanjali was the mother of his son, Arthur.
An alleged victim of drug abuse and alcohol addiction, the former model was found living off the streets in Delhi last week.
She is now undergoing treatment at VIMHANS in the Capital.
Gitanjali's family lives in Delhi, but have snapped all ties with her. They also kept their doors shut to the media.
When asked about the former model, neighbours were clueless about Geetanjali's existence.
"We didn't even know that they had a third daughter. We just got to know when we read the papers today,” a neighbour, R R Vij, told CNN-IBN.
Little is known about the former model's personal life and the circumstances that led to her ruin. However, sources say she lost assignments and got into drugs to cope with stress.
The daughter of a naval officer, Gitanjali studied at the Mount Carmel School and later at the premier Lady Sri Ram College. She also did a course in fashion designing from the South Delhi Polytechnic.
