Models, singers grace unique exhibit in NY

New York: New York is celebrating some of the world's most beautiful women in it's own unique way in an exhibition called 'The Model of Muse' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Pop singer Rihanna arrived on Monday at the annual Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum gala in New York dressed in black. She was the last celebrity to walk the carpet and did not speak with press.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour hosted the gala, which served as the kickoff to "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" exhibit.

Kate Moss co-chaired the event with Justin Timberlake.

Guests included Madonna, Victoria Beckham and designer Stella McCartney with her muses: Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler.

High fashion and its models from post-World War II haute couture to grunge and minimalism of the 1990's are displayed on the same platform.

The exhibit showcases iconic photographs, magazine covers, advertisements, clothes, film and music video clips to illustrate each distinctive era and visitors are greeted with an interpretation of the iconic 1955 Richard Avedon photograph "Dovima with Elephants".

The exhibit is a timeline that begins in the golden age of sophisticated haute couture, which had given way to the youth-oriented 1960's, followed by the glamourous supermodel era that ended in grunge, the antithesis of glamour.
