Ahmedabad: It was Gandhigiri of another kind, as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues and BJP workers spent Monday evening purchasing khadi in Ahmedabad.
Party workers were seen chanting Vande Mataram as well as shouting slogans praising Mahatma Gandhi.
"I personally have been purchasing khadi before every Diwali. I have requested all party workers too to purchase khadis it ensures rural employment and revenue,” said Modi.
But authorities at the Khadi Gramodyog Board feel that the success of Lage Raho Munnabhai is largely responsible for the renewed interest in khadi.
"The movie has definitely brought a change in the way youth look at khadi. The younger generation is now showing more interest," said Chairman of Gujarat Khadi Gramodyog Board, S C Sanehi.
Cashing in on the success of the Bollywood hit, the Board is also giving out special discounts on the fabric.
From politicians to Gen-X, it looks like the mantra of Gandhigiri has smitten all.
