Ahmedabad: While the blasts may have been intended to create communal disturbances in Gujarat, the attempt has certainly failed as the city remained calm a day after the attacks.

Despite a communally-charged past , Ahmedabad wants peace and harmony now and leaders from different communities are urging the people of Gujarat to stay united.

"I appeal for everyone in Gujarat to remain calm and maintain peace," said Gujarat Cheif Minister Narendra Modi.

The CM's appeal for the citizens to keep their cool was echoed across community lines in Ahmedabad which are still reeling under the ghastly terror attack.

Many community leaders sent text messages to spread the message of harmony to citizen groups in communally-sensitive areas of Juhapura, Narol, Sarkhej, where the blasts took place.

The community leaders appealed to others to maintain harmony as well.

"We want this city to remain peaceful, we don't want anyone to disturb it's harmony," said retired sessions judge Shamsuddin Mirza.

"Everything was normal, the peaceful atmosphere has been destroyed. But we want everyone to maintain peace and harmony," said former Juhapura Hajibhai Hasan.

Even celebrities pitched in to condemn the terror act.

"After the attack has taken place, we can only do our best to help and control the damage to people and to their lives," said actor Rahul Bose.

With the city still trying to pick up the pieces and understand the magnitude of the tragedy, all the community leaders are appealing to the people to maintain peace and harmony.
