Modi dares BCCI as IPL meets to seal his fate

CNN-IBN

New Delhi/Mumbai: Lalit Modi continues to raise the stakes and this time his target is the BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan who also owns the IPL team Chennai Super Kings.

In a strongly worded letter, Modi says he does not accept the legality of the findings made by Srinivasan with regard to his show cause notices.

Modi alleges while the BCCI president Shashank Manohar has excused himself from the proceedings against Modi, Srinivasan continues to stay on despite the conflict of interest in his position.

Modi accuses his former colleague of malice and has set a deadline of 48 hours for him to concede that the views expressed in his response to Modi's replies are "private" in nature.

"I don't accept the legality of any of your suggestions, findings or recommendations. Despite the President having excused himself, you have chosen to decide the matter. It's absolutely clear that as far as you're concerned, you're acting out of malice," Modi said in his letter.

He has set a deadline of 48 hours for Srinivasan to inform the BCCI that his views were 'private'.

Charges against Modi are likely to be the top focus of the IPL Governing Council meet Friday. I S Bindra is expected to speak up for the suspended IPL chief, according to sources.

There is a 14-point agenda for the meeting and the governing council is likely to discuss the charges levelled against Modi. The governing council is also likely to discuss a replacement for Shashank Manohar in the disciplinary committee.

The agenda also includes suggestions put forward by the franchises to the BCCI concerning player retention, length of the IPL 4 and salary caps on various players. BCCI had earlier constituted a three-member committee comprising Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Nawab Pataubi for the job.

The governing council and the franchises may like to discuss other proposals and changes they are keen on, in the next edition of the twenty20 league.
