New Delhi: Riding high on a landslide victory, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi on Friday to a rousing welcome.
The reception he received – flowers, flags and cheers – was an indication of the role the firebrand leader is expected to play when Delhi goes to polls next year.
He was already the leader who mattered.
“It’s natural that the frenzy surrounding him will increase and so he will attract more workers,” said BJP leader Harsh Vardhan.
A quick courtesy call on former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and then Modi was the reason for a stocktaking session by the BJP top brass.
Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Arun Shourie, they were all there at prime ministerial candidate L.K.Advani's house. Suddenly, the party felt the need to decide on a winning formula for states going to the polls next year...
“The BJP cadre is very excited after this victory and is keen on taking it forward,” said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.
While one reason for Modi's coming to Delhi was to get the nod for the Gujarat Cabinet formation, the way the party embraced him was a signal enough that he will play a big role in national politics in the days to come.
