Modi govt draws Cong flak over bank scam

New Delhi: The Congress has trained its guns on the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's government once again, claiming that it is trying to protect one of its own - Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah who took a bribe to bail out Ketan Parekh in a Rs 1300 crore co-operative bank scam.

The Congress has alleged that the government has not asked the CBI to investigate the charges against Shah, despite the CID's recommendation.

Congress spokesperson, Arjun Modhvadia said, "I demand the resignation and removal of Amit Shah. The inquiry report should be handed over to the CBI and the role of Narendra Modi should also be investigated."

The CID report says:

  • 18 calls were exchanged between BJP leader Girish Dani and Ketan Parekh's mobiles between September 2004 and June 2005.
  • As many as 31 calls were made between Girish Dani and Amit Shah's mobiles, including three on Oct 3, 2004 – the same time that Ketan Parekh was visiting Ahmedabad.

However, BJP leader Girish Dani has rubbished the allegations, denying that any meeting was held at his house or that a bribe was exchanged.

BJP Leader. Girish Dani sadi, "It is a baseless argument. Ketan Parekh is a good friend, but I have never helped him."

It's no secret that Dani and Ketan Parekh are close friends. And these fresh allegations have only added to the BJPs embarrassment.
