New Delhi: Despite the Godhra blot and the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter controversy, Gujarat Chief Minister has enough reason to keep his head high as he turns the longest serving Chief Minister of the state.

Modi who took over as the Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001 would complete 2,063 days of rule on June 1. While Gujarat, since its formation in 1960, has had as many as 14 chief ministers in 47 years, no other Chief Minister has served for more than 2,062 days. Former Chief Minister Hitendra Desai was the longest serving head of state of Gujarat, being in power for 2062 days.

"Note of progress made by the state has been taken by everyone and even the Central government has appreciated the work done by the state government," Modi was quoted by PTI.

On Wednesday, Modi released a CD in Gandhinagar that boasts of the achievements of the state during his term. As his term comes to an end in December, the BJP leader is busy calculating his moves ahead of the state elections scheduled later this year.

"In the first 41 years of formation of the state, nine five year plans were implemented and the total expenditure outlay of all the nine plans was Rs 52,000 crore. In the tenth five year plan (2001-05) the state's expenditure was Rs 47,000 crore," he said.

"In the recent meeting of states with the Prime Minister on power reforms, the states were asked to produce 28,000 mega watt of power in the next five years. Out of that, 32 per cent, which comes to 11,000 mega watts, will be produced by Gujarat," said Modi.
