Ahmedabad: Suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, who was released on bail on Monday, said that Narendra Modi might be the Chief Minister of Gujarat but as far as riots are concerned, he was a criminal.

Speaking to IBN18 Editor-in-chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Bhatt said that Modi must be treated like a criminal and if he had any role to play, he must be brought to justice.

He said there were "ample evidence from various forums, and will keep on coming out".

Talking about the charges imposed on him, Bhatt termed them as absolutely ridiculous.

"Whatever I have done, I have done as part of duty. I am proud of it and don't see it as a sword hanging on my head," he said.

About his jail term, Bhatt said that it was more of a sabbatical for him as Sabarmati was a second home for him.

He further said that he wanted to stay in Gujarat itself and ensure that the struggle reached its logical end.

When asked about the controversy concerning his subordinate K D Pant, Bhatt said, "Pant is a very small pawn in the game. He has been going back and forth. It is a long drawn battle, justice is not easily drawn anywhere in world."

Bhatt was released from Sabarmati jail on Monday after the court granted him a bail.
