Surat: Two days after one and a half year-old Pranshuk was kidnapped from his house in Surat, police are still clueless about his whereabouts.
While is family is still trying to come to terms with the kidnapping, the incident is fast becoming a major political issue in Gujarat. The powerful Patidar community has threatened protests against the Narendra Modi government.
“If the police don't find the child within 48 hours, we will be out on the roads,†says the leader of Patidar community, Jivarjabhai Dharukawal.
Not only are the Patels angry, the issue has also brought dissention within the ruling BJP to the fore again. The anti-Modi camp in the party has stepped up its campaign.
“The law and order situation in Gujarat has come down to zero. And the only person who is secure in the state is the Chief Minister,†says BJP MLA, Dhirubhai Gajera.
This is not the first time for Chief Minister Narendra Modi has come under attack. The controversial CM has overcome such difficulties earlier as well. But with impending year-end Assembly polls, the question is when will the child be found and how Modi will weather this latest political storm.
