Mohammad Rafi wins Greatest Voice of Hindi Cinema poll

CNN-IBN had asked you to choose the greatest among the golden voices of Hindi cinema from the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi.

IBNLive readers voted for legendary singer Mohammad Rafi as the winner amongst the legends of Hindi cinema music. Rafi sang close to 5000 songs for Hindi films and won as many as six Filmfare awards. He was also honoured with the Padma Shri in 1967.

Born on December 24, 1924, Rafi began his singing career by chanting the notes that a 'fakir' sung in his village. He remains one of India's greatest singers who lent his voice to Bollywood megastars including Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Dev Anand and Rishi Kapoor in his career as one of India's most successful playback artist.

He died of a heart attack in Mumbai on July 31, 1980.

The poll saw a neck and neck competition between Rafi and Kishore Kumar followed by nightingale of India Lata Mangeskar, Mukesh and Asha Bhosle respectively.

All of them remain all time masters of Indian music. Here's celebrating the best amongst the bests.
