I can't be arrested, says Mohanty

Cuttack, Orissa: Top cop B B Mohanty has been declared ‘wanted’ by the Rajasthan police. The DGP however denies all charges against him. Citing a Supreme Court order he says he cannot be arrested. He also denies knowing whereabouts of his son Biti Mohanty, a rape convict who jumped parole allegedly with Mohanty's help.

"Let the Rajasthan police do whatever they want. I am protected by Supreme Court and I will only go by the court's order," DGP Mohanty told CNN-IBN at his Cuttack office on Tuesday. A day after his deadline to surrender in court ran out. CNN-IBN tracked him down when Mohanty was believed to be on the run from the Rajasthan police. He said there is no need for him to surrender.

"The Supreme court's judgment has been misunderstood. The court never directed me to surrender. The case has to be decided in the Apex Court. Whatever order the court gives, I will abide by that,” Mohanty said.

The Director General of Police also stuck to his denial of helping his rapist son Biti of jumping parole and disappearing more than five months ago. "I will do whatever help is needed to make my son surrender. But I right now I do not know where he is,” he said.

The irony of this whole case is that the focus has now shifted from the rape convict Biti Mohanty to his DG father B B Mohanty. The Rajasthan police however hopes Mohanty’s arrest could help catching hold of his rape convict son Biti. The police has been watching virtually from the sidelines. Officials say they are waiting for an arrest warrant against DGP Mohanty before their team goes to Orissa.

It's been more than five months since his son jumped parole after getting convicted by the Jaipur court for raping a Germen tourist in Alwar last year. Bitti’s father a DGP in Orissa police stood by his son's and allegedly helped him jump the parole. However the DG denies the charges and assures of helping the law in getting his son arrested.
