Moroccan coach Karim Bencherifa has parted ways with Mohun Bagan after a mutual agreement with the club. The official announcement was made by the Kolkata giants on Thursday evening after addressing the press at the club premises.
The decision is somewhat surprising as Mohun Bagan have done really well under Bencherifa. The Kolkata giants won three trophies and finished second in the I-League in the Moroccan's first season.
This term they reached two cup finals and are only six points behind league leaders Dempo.
However the failure to defend the Federation Cup and two successive league defeats in Goa were enough to seal Karim's fate.
Former Mohun Bagan player Satyajit Chatterjee has been officially named as the new coach. The club have announced that Chatterjee will be in charge for the remainder of this season.
Chatterjee previously worked as assistant coach of the Mariners during Bencherifa's first season.
