New Delhi: Weightlifter Monika Devi has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the erroneous test report, based on which she was dropped from the Olympics contingent.
“Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) should be punished,” Monika said.
Forty-eight hours after she was cleared of doping charges, champion weightlifter Monika Devi seems to be in no mood to give up the fight.
Monika had been dropped from the Indian contingent just before the Beijing Olympics but Monika is now demanding a CBI enquiry and even accuses some fellow weightlifters of orchestrating the episode.
“I am ready for CBI investigation. Naidu and Shailja Poojari are responsible for the scandal,” Monika said.
The issue has turned political with Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh pitching hard for the weightlifter. He has accused the Sports Authority of India of deliberately leaking her first dope test report while other tests were still to be conducted on her.
In a press conference held in Delhi Singh accused the IOA and SAI of being involved in "a big manipulative game" to keep out weightlifter Monika Devi of the Beijing Olympics.
"The Sports Authority of India has done great damage to this sportsperson. The report is not as per the regular norms of testing, Ibobi Singh said.
However, despite strong support, Monika will not be able to participate in the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has informed the Indian Olympic Association that according to international protocol, it is not possible to add any athlete to the team sent to Beijing.
