Chandigarh: The news that Moninder Singh Pandher - prime accused in the Nithari serial killings - has been given a clean chit by the CBI has brought some relief to his son Karan Singh Pandher.
"Simranjeet Kaur, the lady officer who has been picked up on Wednesday is the one who destroyed the evidence and was extorting money from money, claiming that he had killed Payal, but my father was in Chandigarh two days before that," he said.
"The CBI has done a very fair investigation. They have interrogated everyone in the family and everyone who was involved in the case," he added.
Pandher has been absolved of rape and murder charges and now faces only conspiracy charges and certain sections of the Immoral Trafficking Act.
On December 29 2006, Noida and the rest of India watched in horror as skeletal remains of human beings were dug out from behind Moninder's D-5 residence in Sector 30, Noida.
