Monsoon delayed but no reason to worry: Met

New Delhi: The wait for the monsoons is not yet over. Met officials say there might be partly cloudy skies and sporadic showers at the most but the monsoons won't arrive for the next three or four days.

According to the weathermen, the monsoon currents haven't picked up yet.

If the monsoon does not arrive by Friday, a likely possibility is that this year's monsoon would be the most-delayed rains in the past decade.

But the good news is, the quantum of rainfall doesn't depend on the delay. It might rain harder to make up for the delay!

The Director of Weather Central, Pune (Met dept) Dr P C S Rao said, "The monsoons won't be here for the next 3-4 days. That's what the weather department predicts, but the late onset won't affect the quantity of rainfall this season."

"The status quo is continuing and we don't expect much of an advancement in the next three to four days. The reason is the monsoon currents have not picked up. The Westerlies over the Arabian Sea have not been deep and strong enough," Dr Rao added.

Met officials say Cyclone Aila caused some damage to the progress of monsoons.

"It has caused some damage to the onset of the monsoon. Subsequently it did not pick up as much as it should have. The factors as I said the Westerlies have not picked up much. Also the North Westerlies and Northerlies in north-west India are also some of the reasons for the delay," Dr Rao said.
