Monsoon finally reaches Mumbai

Mumbai: The wait for the monsoon is finally over in Mumbai. After a two week delay, the rains finally arrived in Mumbai bringing some respite from the searing heat.

A heavy downpour in the last 24 hours may have brought relief from the heat, but Mumbaikars will have to tackle traffic jams and water logging across the city again this monsoon.

While the island city saw just over 60 mm of rains and the suburbs over 75 mm of rainfall, there were traffic snarls in Dadar, King's Circle, Matunga and Bandra. And traffic crawled along the Western Express Highway. Thankfully for Mumbaikars, train services were not really badly.

However, the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) is following a wait and watch policy.

BMC’s R A Rajeev says, "I would like to wait for another heavy shower to see if our work has been effective"

The Met Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong gusty winds over the next 48 hours.
