New Delhi: It was a chilling tale of a father who turned a monster. It was a case that not only shocked the world but made parents go soul-searching.
Josef Fritzl, a 73-year-old Austrian, imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth in a bunker-like cellar for 24 years, sexually abused her and fathered seven children with her - three of whom had never left the cellar until they were rescued.
Austria's horror dad was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Josef Fritzl's sister-in-law, Christine R says, "It was a catastrophe. We cannot see the children right now. Obviously it is understandable. They first have to acclimatise themselves."
In September 2008 a 45-year-old Polish man was detained for imprisoning his daughter for six years and repeatedly raping her.
Another monster dad, this time in Santiago, Chile called Jesus Bartierra Jara sexually abused his daughter for 17 years, ever since she was eight years old. The victim had kept mum about the sexual abuse because of shame and fear. She first got pregnant when she was just turned 15.
Incest shakes the very foundations on which a family is built, but for some the very villains that we run away from are often within the four walls of the house.
