A 28-year-old woman and her one-and-a-half year-old baby were found dead in a pond near their residence at Kuttivayal within the limits of Chakkarakkal police station here on Sunday. Police identified the deceased as Reshma P, wife of Manoj, hailing from Bavode, and her son Abhin Raj.

Locals sighted the body of the baby, which was found floating in the pond, around 7 am. Later, the body of Reshma was recovered in the search conducted by the police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel. Bodies have been handed over to relatives after autopsy at the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.

Chakkarakkal police said that initial inquiry pointed to  suicide and registered a case of unnatural death. Nobody echoed an element of doubt regarding the murder to be considered otherwise, the police said. Reshma is the daughter of Kalathil Raveendran and Nalini of Palayam. Locals said she had been staying at her residence of late. Bodies were found when the parents and locals launched searching after Reshma and the child were found missing since early morning.
