New Delhi: Move over Harry Potter, Stephanie Meyers and her Twilight Series is here! A fantasy romance saga told through four books, the Twilight Series is a curious love triangle between a human girl, a vampire and a werewolf - quirky enough to spark anyone's imagination.
No wonder the fourth book of the series, Breaking Dawn which was launched on August 4, bagged a whopping 1.3 million sales on Day 1 itself. And the trend is something that's being reflected in the India markets as well.
Om Book Shop Retail Head, Amit Vij says, "All the four books are selling very well and we have sold almost 1,000 copies of each book now. The next best to Harry Potter."
Twilight, New Moon, The Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, the four book series by Stephanie Meyers chronicle 17-year-old Isabella Swan's experiences after she falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. So is it the forbidden dark romance that's hooking teenagers to the series?
a fan of the series, Asees says, "The books seduce the reader."
The glimmers of teenage passion and promiscuous relationships might be seducing the teen readers but does it mean that Twilight is unsuitable for its impressionable young readers?
Asees' mother thinks so. She says that children should not be reading such books when there is so much good literature available.
But that's not preventing filmmakers from cashing in on the popularity of the series. Twilight, the movie is all set to hit theatres in November this year.
Young adults and adolescents don't really have much option at book stores and that's where Stephanie Meyers' Twilight Series fits in. It might not have the universal appeal of Harry Potter, but its definitely the best thing for teenagers to have hit book shelves in long time.
