Movies do a double whammy with double roles

Mumbai: The more the merrier, the film industry seems to have taken this line a bit too seriously. A double role was something of a rarity in films but now there's Kamal Haasan playing 10 roles in his soon-to-be-released multi-lingual film Dasavatharam.

Also news is that the lead pair of the futuristic Love Story 2050 Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra are featuring in double roles in the film.

Multiple roles obviously means more work for the actors, but they don’t seem to be complaining.

“This is the first time that one actor plays 10 characters. I enjoyed the screenplay and there is an 11th role that I play in the film but that is the typical role that made the other 10 roles possible. It was difficult doing 10 roles but it was interesting,” Kamal said.

Add to that list actors Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav also play more than a single character in their films.

While Kher will be seen in a double role, romancing a young girl in Mr Bhatti on Chutti, Yadav features in three roles – that of an uncle, father and son in his new film Hastey Hastey.

“The film is a situational comedy in which I play the roles of three characters. It’s good and not even complicated,” Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Kher said, ““When we were working on the various qualities that Mr Bhatti should have we realised that he gets very enamoured initially and then gets completely nervous. So that’s because of the double role.”

Going by the plot these films have to offer, we just hope that it's not too complicated that it confuses the audiences and nosedives at the box office.
