Jammu: The Srinagar Sex scandal is back to haunt politicians in Jammu and Kashmir and this time it’s a major embarrassment for the Congress — as a party MP Madan Lal Sharma has alleged that the State Assembly speaker Tara Chand was involved in the sex scandal and Sonia Gandhi and Gulam Nabi Azad’s intervention saved him.
Sharma earlier said, "Tara Chand should have been in jail with Pappu Yadav, but I requested Sonia Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad to suppress the sex scandal list."
And just 24 hours after he made this accusation against the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly speaker, Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma denies having said anything about the sex scandal.
"I did not say any such thing, my workers may have said it," later said Sharma.
However the damage is already done and the Congress state unit is in a firefighting mode after Sharma alleged the involvement of Speaker Tara Chand and former Congress chief Peerzada Sayeed in the Srinagar Sex scandal.
Sharma even said that the Congress High Command saved Tara Chand, despite Sharma's later retraction the Speaker is clearly not amused.
Speaker, J&K legislative assembly Tara Chand defends himself, "The MP has been doing this for the last several months now, and he has been going to my constituency and has been trying to tarnish my political image by spreading various stories.
While the state Chief Minister has evaded questions, a delighted opposition is in no mood to let the opportunity pass.
BJP State president Ashok Khajuria says, "We want to ask Sonia Gandhi why did she intervene to save her tainted leaders, this is a serious issue and our party will raise it in the Parliament too."
The Srinagar sex scandal had names of high profile officers and ministers, two ministers of state and a senior IAS had even been arrested — a year later, it seems the ghost of scandal has returned to haunt the Congress in this election year.
